NPTEL Summer/ Winter Internship

Eligibility

• NPTEL course toppers and candidates passing the certification exam in the Elite-Gold category are only eligible to apply.
• The internships will be considered for the Students and Faculty members (as per the profession selected during the course enrolment).
• The students will be considered for the in-person internships only. Faculty members who cannot avail leave from their workplace and the candidates with disabilities (PwD) will only be considered for the virtual internship, wherever feasible.

Duration of internship

• Internships can be offered for a period of 2/4/6/8/10/12 weeks duration. The duration will be decided by the course instructor based on the nature of internship related work and the availability of other logistics.
• The tentative start date of internship can be adjusted based on the mutual convenience of the selected candidates and the faculty.

Application Process and Selection

• The NPTEL office will contact the course instructor to check if they can take interns from the toppers/Elite-Gold category of learners of their respective courses.
• Depending on the availability and confirmation from the course instructor, the eligible candidates of those courses where the consent of the faculty has been obtained will be informed through email with the detailed application process and the internship schedule.
• The NPTEL will send the communication in this regard by April for the Summer internships and by October for the Winter internships.
• The interested eligible candidates are expected to check their academic calendar, get the consent of their college authorities and apply online with the following documents
• Resume
• Last 2-semester grade cards
• Statement of purpose
• NPTEL course certificate
• The selection of the candidate will be made by the course instructor based on the documents submitted/personal interview/any other means as it is deemed suitable.
• The decision of the faculty on the selection process is final and binding on all.
• The selected candidates will be issued with the offer letters copying their college authorities.

Accommodation

NPTEL will try to arrange for your accommodation at one of the hostels within the institute premises. The local institute guidelines in this regard are binding and the availability of hostel accommodation cannot be guaranteed. This factor has to be taken into consideration while applying for the internships.

In case of non-availability of in-campus hostel accommodation, the candidate has to arrange for his/her own accommodation outside. The local NPTEL offices at IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee, and IISc Bangalore can assist you in finding suitable outside accommodation, if required. The contact details of the local offices will be provided in the internship offer letters.

For NPTEL internships at institutes other than those IITs/IISc mentioned above, the selected candidates have to get in touch with the Professor (through official email/phone) for any support or make their own arrangements.

Stipend

The stipend for the in-person NPTEL internship has been revised effective from Summer Internship 2025 as per the following details. No stipends are payable for the virtual internship.

The stipend will be payable on successful completion of the internship.
