All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) the statutory body and a national-level council for technical education, under Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development and NPTEL have signed an MOU on July 24, 2018 whereby advanced NPTEL online certification courses are approved for Faculty Development Programme (FDP) by AICTE.

Terms and Conditions

  • NPTEL is already conducting Advance and Basic Level courses through MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses)
  • A large number of Advance Level Courses are being offered by NPTEL. These are 1 credit, 2 credit and 3 credit courses.
  • Since MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) of NPTEL are not full time like regular FDPs, it is decided that its equivalence to regular FDP shall be considered as under.

  • NPTEL MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) will have regular assignments and in person examination at the end. A test will be conducted by NPTEL and a certificate be issued to only those participants who attended the programme and qualify in the test.

Roles & responsibilities of NPTEL
  1. It shall be the responsibility of NPTEL to conduct advance level courses through MOOCs, which are good enough to be FDP.
  2. NPTEL will do the certification of these courses with AICTE.
  3. NPTEL will act as facilitator for the operation of the programmes.
  4. NPTEL through its Academic Affairs Council (this is the senates of the different IITs that run courses on NPTEL) and its programme Implementation Committee (Chaired by Director, IIT Madras and all NPTEL coordinators are member) will identify the set of advanced courses that are good enough to be FDP.
  5. The list of courses will be advertised on the NPTEL portal (nptel.ac.in) and a record of courses approved every semester will be maintained on the same portal.
  6. Online portal will be modified by NPTEL to invite applications for the conduct of advance level courses through MOOCs and the link also be provided at AICTE website.
  7. Since the NPTEL courses are supported by MHRD, NPTEL will be accountable for finance/grants sanctioned under the scheme and shall abide by terms and conditions stipulated by MHRD for financial grants.
  8. NPTEL will constitute a Steering Committee for effecting implementation of scheme. AICTE will provide its representative as a member on that Committee.
  9. After conduct of each programme, NPTEL will provide to AICTE a list of participant faculty from engineering college, alongwith their contact details, who attended the MOOCs programme in the eligible NPTEL courses and successfully completed the same.
  10. A special joint certificate will be issued by NPTEL to the participants who attended the MOOCs programme in the eligible NPTEL courses and successfully completed the same. The specially designed joint certificate will carry AICTE logo and signatures of Advisor, AICTE and NPTEL Coordinator appended on it.
  11. NPTEL will ensure that the above said certificate shall be issued only to those participants who qualify examinations.
Roles & responsibilities of AICTE: -
  1. AICTE shall nominate a representative to attend the meetings of Steering Committee for monitoring the implementation of the terms and conditions laid down in the MoU.
  2. An appropriate advertisement shall be placed by AICTE and NPTEL and applications will be invited online on NPTEL web portal with the link on AICTE website.
  3. AICTE shall conduct surprise visit to some centres while the conduct of test is in progress. NPTEL will provide the schedule to AICTE in advance.
What Faculty has to do
  1. Faculty has to enroll to courses on NPTEL portal, register for the certification exam(s) by filling the form and paying the applicable fees, appear at the designated exam centre and write the exam, and pass the exam by scoring marks according to criteria set by NPTEL.
  2. Faculty who participate in and pass the NPTEL courses approved by AICTE as FDP will apply separately to NPTEL and get the FDP certificate agreed upon by AICTE and NPTEL.
  3. This will be submitted by the faculty to AICTE to complete the process.

Applicability


The AICTE FDP is applicable from Jul-Dec 2018 semester onward. This will NOT be applicable to previously completed NPTEL Certification Courses.

FAQ


A. General

1. On what basis are the courses identified as AICTE approved FDP courses?
AICTE has made it clear that FDP will be available only for elective and advance topics.
FDP will not be applicable to core courses.
So, courses are chosen accordingly.
2. Can you please add a few more courses in this FDP approved course list?
No. These are courses pre-approved by AICTE. We will not be adding any more courses to this list for the July-Dec 2018 semester
3. Will FDP be applicable to previously completed NPTEL certification courses?
The AICTE FDP is applicable from Jul-Dec 2018 semester onward.
This will NOT be applicable to previously completed NPTEL Certification Courses.
4. Do we get the regular NPTEL certificate as well as a separate FDP certificate
You will get the regular NPTEL certificate for the exam written and passed. After that you will have to separately apply for the NPTEL-AICTE FDP certificate.
6. Is there any change in the enrollment form?
No. They may enroll using the same enrolment form as before.
7. Can the faculty continue to act as mentor?
Yes. He/she can be a Mentor of the course.

B. STEPS TO FOLLOW

1. What are the steps the faculty has to follow to obtain the AICTE-NPTEL FDP certificate?
1. Faculty has to enroll to courses on NPTEL portal, register for the certification exam(s) by filling the form and paying the applicable fees, appear at the designated exam centre and write the exam, and pass the exam by scoring marks according to criteria set by NPTEL.
2. Faculty who participate in and pass the NPTEL courses approved by AICTE as FDP will apply separately to NPTEL and get the FDP certificate agreed upon by AICTE and NPTEL.
3. This will be submitted by the faculty to AICTE to complete the process.

C. To apply for FDP certificate separately

1. Is there a fees for getting the FDP certificate? If so, how much?
Rs 200/- if you want to get the hard copy of certificate posted to you. If you dont want the hard copy and the e-certificate alone will do, then the fee is Rs 100/-
3. Should the faculty submit any proof along with the application of FDP certificate?
Yes,a copy of the college Faculty id card or any other proof of being a faculty member in an engineering college should be uploaded.

Who is eligible to apply for FDP certificate?

  • If the faculty has written the Oct 2018 NPTEL exam and passed any of the courses listed here (List of FDP courses), he/she is eligible to apply for an FDP certificate. The FDP certificate will be issued in addition to the usual NPTEL certificate.

  • Faculty may go to nptel.ac.in/noc/, login and click on the link as shown in this image.
  • The screen shown below will be displayed.

Hard copy/ Soft copy of FDP certificate

  • If you require hard copy of the FDP certificate, the fees per FDP course certificate will be Rs. 200/-
  • If soft copy will suffice, fees per FDP course certificate will be Rs. 100/-

When will the e-certificate be available on the portal?

  • 3 days after the payment has been made, e-certificate will be displayed on the portal.

3-day Rule

  • Till 3 days after the e-certificate has been published, you may notify us of errors. We will make the corrections in the e-certificate. After these 3 days, the e-certificate will be frozen and given for printing.
  • If you require any further changes, you have to pay Rs. 200/- extra.

When will the e-certificate be dispatched?

  • 3 days after the e-certificate has been published, it will be given for printing (if hard copy has been requested).

Where will the FDP Certificate be dispatched?

  • In the exam form, the address that has been provided by the faculty will be used for dispatch of FDP certificates as well.

Last date to apply

  • LAST DATE FOR PAYING FEES FOR FDP HARD COPY CERTIFICATE: Dec 31, 2018 5pm (Monday).
    (After this date, hard copy of FDP certificate will not be sent. )
  • LAST DATE FOR PAYING FEES FOR FDP E-CERTIFICATE: Jan 31, 2019 5pm (Thursday).
    (After this date, you cannot apply for FDP certificate.)
