Question: For making a tool (for lathe and shaper) how much angle should be taken..
By: shivshankar kumar     Date: 2014-03-28

Answer: The choice of tool geometry depends on work material, tool material and level of process parameters (rough machining etc.). For example, if you are doing rough turning of low to medium carbon steel, at the cutting speed of 100 m/min, feed of 0.24 mm/rev and depth of cut of 2.5 mm, with uncoated insert, the tool geometry could be: inclination angle: -7 to 0 degree orthogonal rake angle: -7 to 7 degree principal cutting edge angle: 75 degree auxiliary cutting edge angle: 15 degree clearance angles: 7 degree nose radius: 0.8 mm
